Review on 1984 by George Orwell

Image
SPOILER WARNING! This is Vraj with another book review. I recently read 1984  by George Orwell. Published in 1949, George Orwell dwells on the future (or what was as the time the future), and how different the world will become in the year 1984. One of many of Orwell's classic novels, I enjoyed reading this book. Here is my review of 1984. But first, here is a summary (once again, SPOILER WARNING!): Winston Smith is a middle-aged man living in London, Oceania in the year 1984. Oceania is one of the big three superstates (along with Eurasia and Eastasia). The ruling party, Ingsoc (known as "The Party"), lead by the "Big Brother," is totalitarian, watching over everybody using telescreens. These telescreens allow party workers to see and hear everything happening. The Party also gets to choose what people know. Whatever The Party says is fact, it is fact, no questions asked. There are two main sections of The Party, the rich Inner Party, and the not-so-w...

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief Review by Cameron McGill

Today I, Cameron McGill, will be reviewing Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. Before I get started, I would like to point out that I am very biased and basically any book series of the fantasy genre besides Harry Potter I'll happily read so I'm probably giving this book more credit than I should. Before I say what I liked about this book, I'm going to be nit picky and criticize it. But before I start I would like to quickly inform you that this review has a lot of spoilers so if that bothers you should stop reading. Now that all of that is all out of the way, I am going to begin criticizing the book.  So, here is the only major problem that I have with the book: the story stops at some points and after a while it gets old. Let me explain. Sometimes, the narrator (Percy) will put an idea on pause by ending a paragraph and just says something small and obvious. Now, I'm being very nit picky here because for the most part it works pretty well but there were a few times wh...

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus; a Review by Emily Shunk

Image
One of Us Is Lying Written by Karen M. McManus Review by Emily Shunk 5 students are framed for possession of phones in class, and all 5 are landed in detention by the last period's bell. Simon, the creator of the High School's famous gossip app, never leaves detention alive. Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, and Cooper are all the prime suspects in Simon's murder. Soon it is revealed that Simon was about to release the hottest new gossip on all four of them, news that could ruin their lives. Now, with each of them in possession of a motive, they're inspected by the police. As their lives all suddenly derail, all of them need to work together to figure out who killed Simon before one of them ends up in jail. All of them are suspects of murder. How much worse can life possibly get? If you were to ask me 'What is your favorite book?' - I would reply with this one. I've read it twice. There is a very short list of books that I believe are good enough to read more ...

Eragon the 1st installment of the Inheritance Cycle

Hello, my name is Charlie Hechler and I will be analyzing and reviewing Eragon the great fantasy story written by teenage Christopher Paolini. This book is probably my least favorite of the entire Inheritance Cycle , the four book collection, Eragon being the first installment. Eragon is a story following a boy who happens across a dragon egg deep in a forest. The story follows him as the dragon hatches and he must flee from his hometown on a quest to avenge his slain uncle. Along the way he meets new friends and foes as well as the mental challenges of being put in a place of great power and responsibility. He is now the only dragon rider between the evil King Galbatorix and complete control of Alegasia. But first he must get revenge on the shade, a sorcerer  that has been taken over and controlled by evil spirits, that was the one who had slain his uncle. He embarks on a grand quest with Brom an old mysterious man across Alegasia to the Varden, a resistance force that i...

#murdertrending Written by Gretchen McNeil Review written by Emily Shunk The worst of the worst get what they deserve... perfectly legitimate right?  Dee, at age 17, is sent to Alcatraz 2.0 after she's accused of her sister's murder. The island's rules are simple: have a job, make money, buy food, and avoid at all costs the serial killers known as the Paniacs. Hired by the Postman, and somehow encouraged by the government, the Paniacs hunt down Alcatraz 2.0's inmates and put on a gruesome show for the entire world to watch on the Postman app. With all the cameras on her, Dee reverses the cards on Prince Slayer, killing him and winning the internet's title of #CinderellaSurvivor.  With her every move broadcasted on the app, and with all of the Postman's attention, Dee needs to survive on the island, away from the grasp of the Paniac's gory performances. Haunted by the memories of a childhood kidnapping, Dee starts to put together pieces t...
